Patnitop, derived from the original name “Patan Da Talab” meaning “Pond of the Princess”, has a fascinating historical story. In ancient times, there was a pond in the meadows where the king’s princess would often bathe, giving the area its name. Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at your hotel, and then proceed to visit the Nag Temple, a prominent religious site in Patnitop. The temple is dedicated to the serpent god, and its scenic location amidst the dense forests offers a calm and peaceful atmosphere, perfect for some introspection. Afterward, embark on an excursion to Nathatop and Sanasar, two scenic spots near Patnitop. Nathatop: Known for its lush green meadows and views of the majestic snow-capped mountains, Nathatop offers panoramic views of the Pir Panjal mountain range. It’s a perfect spot for nature walks, photography, and enjoying the cool mountain breeze. The distance from Patnitop to Katra is around 70 kilometers, and the journey takes approximately 2-3 hours by road, offering scenic views of the majestic Trikuta Mountains along the way. Upon arrival in Katra, you’ll proceed with the Mata Vaishno Devi Darshan. The journey to the temple involves a trek of around 13 kilometers from Katra to the Vaishno Devi Temple, which is located at an altitude of about 5,200 feet. The trek is a spiritual experience, offering stunning views of the mountains and valleys, and devotees can choose to walk or take ponies or palkis (palanquins) for assistance. After reaching the Bhawan, you will have the chance to seek blessings at the Vaishno Devi Shrine, dedicated to Mata Vaishno Devi, a manifestation of Goddess Durga. The temple is known for its holy cave where the Goddess is believed to have meditated and left three pindis (sacred stones representing the Goddess). It’s a powerful and deeply spiritual experience for pilgrims. Once the Darshan is completed, you can descend back to Katra either on foot or by using available transport. Patnitop (if you wish to visit again or explore some more of the hill station) Jammu: Visit the Raghunath Temple, Ranbireshwar Temple, or the Mubarak Mandi Palace if you’re interested in local history and culture. Upon arrival in Amritsar, you’ll be dropped at either the Amritsar Railway Station or Amritsar Airport, depending on your travel preferences.
